I first developed an interest in data visualization while living in China, volunteering as an English teacher. This interest was sparked by exploring the Chinese city in which I lived, and as I studied city planning more, it matured into a deeper appreciation for visual analytics and its function in information synthesis and education. I came to Tableau because I enjoy helping people see insights out of data by utilizing beautiful and insightful outputs. I look forward to using the skills I have developed to give back to the community, and would love to help with any education, city planning, international development, environmental or athletic groups.

I grew up the son of a Foreign Service Office, and as a result spent many years aboard traveling the world. Originally from Kansas City, I've lived abroad in China, South Africa, and Qatar. After attending St. Olaf College where I studied Mathematics and Physics, I spent a year in Zhuzhou, China, where I taught English to middle school aged students. While there, I developed an interest in city planning, and upon returning to the US, I went to Portland, Oregon, where I earned graduate degrees in city planning and transportation engineering. In pursuit of these degrees I researched bus systems – or to be specific, high-resolution spatial data supporting bus systems – and worked as a Transportation Engineer developing spatial analysis and transportation modeling. These academic pursuits helped me to cultivate a broad skillset, focused in ArcGIS, R, statistics, data preparation, and analysis. Before joining Tableau, I worked for the State Department helping to build embassies and consulates abroad. Outside of the office you'll find me at the rock climbing gym, traveling, hiking, or going on bike camping trips.
