Most generally, my goal in using my Tableau/data analysis/data storytelling/data engineering skills is to help people reach their potential.

Currently, I most consistently spend my time helping the Tableau Finance team (in my everyday job), the entire Tableau employee base (as a Tableau internal product help doctor), Tableau customers (as a Tableau doctor at Tableau customer conferences or on calls with existing/prospective Tableau customers), myself, and my personal family/friends to see and understand their data.

I have also volunteered my Tableau skills at a hackathon with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and to help give middle-school children from Salmon Bay Elementary an introduction into how to use the Tableau product. I have built out content for and presented on webinars for the Fast, Flexible Finance Analytics webinar series.

Whenever I come across an interesting question, I always say "well, let's look at the data." Due to having a data-driven problem-solving mindset, I have collected much data around my personal life and actions. My personal data collection ranges from tracking the number of times I floss my teeth to what my thoughts are after reading specific chapters or passages in books. I generally think that if a lower level of detail can be attained in your data collection, a deeper analysis of the data can also be achieved.

I am a passionate believer of the idea that it is difficult to improve without measuring and understanding where you currently are. If something is not going well, I believe that we must measure and understand why it is not going well. Once we have that understanding, changes can be made, and we will know what metrics and indicators are most important to measure in the future to improve and track performance.

The world is complex and difficult to understand. Humans are complex and difficult to understand as well. The ways that humans interact with each other and the planet that we live on have effects in which we do not completely understand. I love attempting to visualize information regarding food/nutrition, macroeconomics, personal finance/risk, human living conditions/public health, mental health, ecology, religion, human fulfillment, etc. I believe that the more that humans understand what is happening in the world, along with the root causes behind these happenings, the more we can come together. I believe that Tableau can be used to expose truth and understanding, which can bring people together over cultural, religious and social divides. ---This is the mindset that I have when using the Tableau suite of products, along with my skillset and any other software to help people see and understand data.
