Data has always been central to my job. My background starts in the wild and crazy world of litigation and e-discovery, where I used SQL queries to push, pull, and prod millions of documents through custom processing applications on their way to being reviewed by lawyers. Think "Sorcerer's Apprentice" from Fantasia, but with emails instead of brooms. Later, as a manager tasked with compiling monthly metrics on our team's performance, I decided there had to be a better way than Excel graphs. Enter Tableau.
At Tableau, I started out being responsible for SQL Server administration and development for our reporting servers, but have now come to find myself passionately married to the task of managing our Tableau Server environment.
What I love to do most is understand a need that someone has in their day to day job that remains unmet by any existing software features, and use whatever creativity I have to create a solution for them.
A few of the projects I've really enjoyed:
-Custom data-driven alerting for Tableau Server (my current baby)
-Automating daily retrieval of cloud-hosted database files
-Creating user-friendly data sources for poorly understood data
-Building a content replication process for Tableau Server
At Tableau, we have a specific type of recurring problem we're constantly trying to solve: scaling as an enterprise. I am really eager to solve problems of a different variety, using resources that are much more constrained.
