Hi, I'm Ben Jones, Director of Outreach Programs at Tableau Software, author of Communicating Data with Tableau (O'Reilly, 2014), blogger at dataremixed.com and teacher of data visualization theory at University of Washington's PCE certificate program.
The programs that I'm fortunate enough to work on at Tableau include Tableau Public, Academic Programs, and Social Impact. These three programs enable journalists, professors, students and organizations to make a difference in our world using data.
As a data visualization enthusiast, I thrive on helping people and organizations make sense out of data - both complex data sets and simple ones - and then communicate what they find to others effectively so as to make a meaningful impact.
I've worked with top news organizations, such as CNBC (US) and La Nacion (Argentina), to tell the stories of our time. I served on the board of directors of Interface, a nonprofit in the Southern California area seeking to improve the lives of children and families in their area, helping them analyze and improve their direct mail fundraising efforts. And I've taught thousands of journalists, analysts, and other professionals use Tableau and other tools to apply data to solve the most significant problems they face.
I live in Bellevue, Washington with my two boys Aaron (13) and Simon (11) and we enjoy hiking on the trails of Western Washington. I'm also passionate about the environment, health in our communities, and improving data literacy in the world in which we live.
